Let's celebrate World Earth Day 2008!

Tuesday, 22 April is World Earth Day 2008
Unlike others, I don't celebrate my own birthday. I don't know why; I just don't know what am I celebrating for. Shocked Having said that, Earth Day is more important than my own birthday and it does deserve much attention and recognition. After all, we live every day on Earth, use its resources and just do whatever we can to destroy and pollute it further. Angry In fact, Earth Day should be every day!  Smile

As I was walking around at Jusco S2, I stopped at this notice board outside Starbucks.

I'm glad that Starbucks is lending a hand at creating awareness for Earth Day with the motto "less newspapers, more plants". They are inviting the public to bring 1 foot of old newspapers in exchange for 1 potted plant this Sunday, 20 April 2008 from 10.00am to 6.00pm. As usual, valid while stocks last on a first come, first served basis. I'll have to work tomorrow, but I hope they still have 1 plant left for me when I get back. In fact, if they didn't limit it to 1 per customer, I could be bringing home half a dozen of potted plants tomorrow. Anyhow - WAY TO GO STARBUCKS!!! Wink

Remember this Tuesday, 22 April is World Earth Day. Let's pamper and give Earth the love it had never gotten from us. Polluting the Earth is like poking your own eyes with your own fingers. Destruction is easier than construction. Throw a pot full of coins from the top of a tall building, then try picking them up one by one. It only took a second to throw it, but perhaps hours to collect all of them back. Think before you act. REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE. Big Smile

My little body's slowly breaking down
It was my first time to play badminton on Thursday, after so many years of not holding a badminton racquet in my hand. I almost forgot what a shuttlecock looks like! Shocked My last time playing badminton would have been in primary school - that's at least a decade ago. I played for about an hour. Ohhh... I don't think I can ever play it again.

My entire body is still aching till today. It might take me a week or two to recover. It's so hard to sit. It's so hard to get up from the seat. It's so hard to sleep. My neck aches. My shoulder aches. I can feel my ribs rotting. My buttocks hurt. My legs  - almost paralyzed. I cannot straighten my left arm. I can't lift any object heavier than 100 grams. Ohhh.... I feel like I just fell off a 10-storey building and my whole body is about to break into pieces at any moment. If I climbed one mountain, it could be my last. cry

The worst part is I have no time to really rest. I have to work on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. That means I'll be working for 2 weeks straight with no break in between. This is going to be tough on my little, weak and diminishing body. cry

If a T-Rex chased me, I won't be able to run. I'll be its delicious dinner. Hurmph Goodbye Jeffrey....

Isn't it time we say NO?

Isn't it time we say NO to plastic bags?
Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year. Plastic bags don't biodegrade, they photodegrade—breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest. Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.

You can make a change. Bring your own shopping bag when you shop and refuse a plastic bag! Make it a habit NOW!

Trying to be different?
Businesses try to adopt the differentiation strategy to stand out from the rest and to stay in the mind of consumers. I've been reading notices on shops that first mention the dates they will be closed, followed by when they will resume their businesses.

Here's one coffee shop which did it the unconventional way :-

I will remember this notice for life!

I like to K.I.S.S.
I had my hair cut a week ago. Demanded for a shorter hair cut. Some of my colleagues complaint that it was too short. For the first time, I didn't really care. Smile I just wanted it short and simple. Hmmm... what do you think?

I like to keep it short and simple (or sweet Wink

I'm not religious, but it made me wanna pray
I'm not religious and it's rare to ever see me at the temple. But I was in Penang on 16 March and I made a stop at the Chaiya Mangkalaram Buddhist Temple at Burma Lane a.k.a. the famous Sleeping Buddha Temple. There were many tourists there and I suppose you don't have to be a Buddhist to enter the premises.

I don't always feel this relaxed, but it felt so soothing and relaxed just being there. A different vibe. It made me wanna pray. Smile

Just a microscopic look at what we've done

The price of rice is skyrocketing all over the world. This trend will continue until the end of the year, and it is causing panic in many Asian countries. Why is rice getting more expensive? The rice supply is decreasing. Why the decrease in rice supply? Floods in many Asian countries have affected the rice output in the region. Why floods? Climate change. Why the change in climate? Need you ask???

The Earth's surface temperature has risen by about 1 degree Fahrenheit in the past century, with accelerated warming during the past two decades. Most of the warming over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities. Human activities have altered the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases—primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

What has changed in the last few hundred years is the additional release of carbon dioxide by human activities. Fossil fuels burned to run cars and trucks. Increased agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining also contribute a significant share of emissions.

Check out TIME's graphic effects of climate change by 2020 @ http://www.time.com/time/2007/climate_change

Think about it. One day, you no longer have rice or vegetabies to eat because it is impossible to grow them. We always want more than less. It's time for us to consume less to live more. Stop being selfish. Think about the future; the future is in our hands. Do something to save Mother Earth. Anything! cry
Superheroes can't save the planet, but you can.
There is only you. There is only now. There is always hope.
Conserve and re-use.

What is Earth Hour?
Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

About Earth Hour
It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?
The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year. With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities joined Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities participated in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

Tick Tock Tick Tock

Again, it's been a while I posted an entry here. There's no denying I ain't an active blogger. So, my list of hobbies/interests do not include blogging. I think to blog, one has got to have a lot of extra time. And I do not have enough time for myself, yet. Times does fly. Angel

4 Minutes To Save The World
Speaking of time, Madonna's first single of her new album, "Hard Candy" is called "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake, which is already on rotation on radio stations everywhere! The single debuted on Billboard Hot 100 at #68 and jumps all the way up into the Top 10 at #3, making it her 37th Top 10 hit in USA, surpassing Elvis Presley's record of 36 Top 10 hits! Way to go Madonna! Wink

On iTunes USA, "4 Minutes" is #1 on Top Songs chart, Top Ringtones chart and Top Music Videos chart. You can purchase the digital single on iTunes or Amazon.com if you love it!

"4 Minutes" is also #1 on iTunes in Australia, Belgium, Canana, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and New Zealand!

She looks amazing (for a woman who's turning 50 soon) in the music video! Big Smile Watch the official video here :

American Idol Season 7
My favorites are still on the show - David Archuleta, Brooke White and Michael Johns! Yeah!!!

Brooke White sang "Let It Be" so brilliantly till she cried. cry Heartwarming. Her best performance. Watch this :

27 Dresses
I watched 27 Dresses on my computer last night. 27 Dresses is a romantic comedy film directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Aline Brosh McKenna. The film stars Katherine Heigl as Jane and James Marsden as Kevin.

The movie's funny, touching, loving and romantic. If you love movies like this, you ought to watch it. Wink

Time for me to blog again!

Hello!!! It's so tough to keep blogging actively, when you have so little time left in a day. So what has kept me busy for the past few weeks? Read on...

My Hero-ic mission to rescue Edison Chen!
My buddy, Edison Chen is in deep trouble and I had to rescue him. Wink

Rushed to MPH, searched high and low for a book "How To Become A Hero in 1 Day, For Dummies". I might have been having high expectations because I was told no such book was ever written. Damn! How pathetic! Hurmph

Time for Plan B. How about posing with some 'real' Heroes instead? Notice the sign behind my head - "GOTTA HAVE IT"? It means I gotta have all their superpowers........... Angel

Nope, didn't work either. I didn't manage to absorb their superpowers, but was only reminded of how small I am again. Damn! Sad

Time for Plan C.

Err... sorry Edison, no Plan C. Mission failed. cry

Shopping till I drop!
Okay, I admit. Chinese New Year was another lame excuse for me to go shopping. With a lower-than-expected bonus for 2007, shopping was no fun. Sad

Had to keep reminding myself "don't buy, expensive", "nice to see, lovely to touch, but expensive to buy", "save money, save money, don't buy".... Everything looked so nice..  Hurmph

My feet were aching with all that walking around. Took a seat. Hmmm... looks like a great spot for taking photos. Here you go :

Nice flowers eh?

With all that shopping, walking and photo taking, one has eat. One of my new year resolutions is to spend less and save more money. So, I had to search for something that could satisfy my hunger at low-cost. Walla! Sprouts! Cheap, and a whole lot! Whole plate for me. Gimme gimme more, gimme more... Tongue

Ornaments don't come cheap. The beautiful ones are always expensive. If you're not going to buy them, why not snap a photo with them? Wink

Hmm... I never owned a half-length jeans. Wondered how great I would look in one. Let's give it a try....

Needless to say, I looked aweful in one. Shocked Bad idea after all!

Let's change subject....

Hey look! Lions do go shopping too! Surprise

And lions do kiss too... in public! Awww.... Wink

Can you guess what blue animal this is? A monkey. Hurmph

Is this a tiger? How would you describe it? Cute? Ugly? Shocked

It's all about the movies!
Stephen Chow's movie, CJ7 premiered during Chinese New Year. Unsurprisingly, I didn't get a chance to buy the cinema tickets. Here's the movie poster and I was told that the boy in the poster, is actually acted by a girl. True? Shall we check what lies beneath? Shocked

Alternatively, Jay Chou's Kung Fu Dunk-ey was available, but I didn't think I would like it. Hurmph

I could say that my first movie watched in 2008 would be Jumper. My last movie watched was National Treasures 2 in December 2007. I was given the heads up not to watch Cloverfield. Hurmph

Jumper - from the director of The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith? Wow, I had seen both films before and they were great. I was really looking forward to Jumper. Had seen the trailer several times and the idea of teleporting caught my interest. After all, Samuel L. Jackson was in the movie too. The lead actor, Hayden Christenson... no idea who he is.

Initially, it was interesting. The idea of being able to teleport/transport/jump yourself to wherever you want to excited me. Imagine you could have the ability to have breakfast at Tiffany's, then lunch in the Sahara desert, then go for a suntan in Miami Beach, etc. You could actually be wherever you want to be at anytime you want to within a blink of your eye. Facinating huh? Overall, the movie was entertaining. I would rate it as "worth to watch" but not "must watch". Forget reality, just let go and enjoy the jumping. Alright, I'll shut up and drive. Big Smile

I had seen the trailer for Vantage Point several times and I had to keep reminding myself to not miss this one! And I didn't. Big Smile

The President was shot at a summit conference in Spain, followed by explosions. Yeah, imagine the shock and chaos. What you get is the point of view of the director (Sigourney Weaver) of the TV news team. When it's done, the movie rewinds back to the point of view of Secret Service agent (Dennis Quiad) who may or may not have glimpsed the assassin moments before the shooting. The movie rewinds again and shows the point of view of a Spanish cop who may or may not be involved in the cospiracy. The movie rewinds yet again and shows the point of view of the president himself.. and rewinds again for the point of view of a tourist in the crowd videotaping the event with his camcorder.

Just when you thought something was about to be revealed, expect a rewind to another person's point of view. But with each of the perspectives, the film is skillfully enhanced and wonderfully complex. The movie challenges you to focus on every image and rushes to an explosive end. Thrilling and original, and not politics. Big Smile

It's virtually all action, but the action is never mindless and it is full of marvelous surprises every step of the way. Full of action and a very satifying movie. It keeps your ass well on the edge of your seats trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together in place. Big Smile

8 strangers. 8 points of view. 1 truth! Don't miss this one! Wink

It's all about the music!
Rihanna says it best. Please don't stop the music, music, music! Don't we all love music? Wink

So, what's new? Paula Abdul has a comeback single, Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, from the forthcoming Randy Jackson's Music Club Vol. 1 CD.
CLICK HERE to stream the single.

What do you think of it? If you love it, request for it at your local radio stations!

The video debuted during the American Idol Season 7 Top 24 results show. I love it (I was her fan in the 80s)! Notice the 4 persons standing at the end of the video? If you missed it, watch it below:

Paula also performed for this year's Superbowl pre-game show. Watch her performance here:

It's all about American Idol!
American Idol is back with Season 7! The auditions are over!

Last week, the Top 24 performed in 2 shows - Top 12 Males and Top 12 Females with music from the 60s. Results were out. 2 Males and 2 Females left the show. My favorite performances were :

Shop Around by David Archuleta

You Don't Have To Say You Love Me by Ramiele Malubay

Light My Fire by Michael Johns

Next week, the Top 20 will perform. Good luck guys and girls!

It's all about going ORGANIC!
I'd started my quest to go organic last year. I want to lead a simple and healthy live. It's not an easy process, because you have to give up the food and drinks you've been consuming, which tasted great but eventually does no good for your body.

So, I'm more conscious with what I put into my body. Less intake of sugar, salt, meat, seafood, fried food, oily food, carbonated drinks (damn Sad), milk, etc. More intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grain food, water! You get the idea right? Wink

I start my mornings with a cup of wholesome goodness of soymilk, wheatgrass, barley grass, wheatgerm, soy lechitin, nutritional yeast, wheatgerm oil and flaxseed oil. I make sure I eat apples every day. I also take oats, prunes, bananas, green tea, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.

This is where I get my organic stuff from:

Going organic isn't cheap but think about the amount of medical fees you'll eventually save on. After all, health is wealth. Right?

It's time to dance like there's no tomorrow!
That's all from me today. Be happy always and I'm going to Dance Like There's No Tomorrow now! Wink

All I wanna do is stay right here on the floor
Get lost in the night
And dance like there's no tomorrow
Don't care about the sunrise
Somebody please just hit the lights
All I wanna do is dance like there's no tomorrow

ALL I WANNA DO IS DANCE LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW
